Toxic relationships video: A resource for college students

  • College is supposed to be the best years of your life; a chance to meet new people and learn new things, and for a while, it was.

I loved my classes and friends and I even started dating someone, someone who made me feel really special.

Things got serious pretty quick, but then something started to change. Texts constantly checking in on me, acting jealous of everyone I talked to–even saying mean things to me.

At first, I thought it was all because of me. Maybe I was spending too much time with my friends. Maybe that outfit didn't look good on me. The words hurt but maybe I needed to hear them.

Thankfully, a friend noticed I wasn't being myself anymore. It must have been hard for her to say something. I could see she was worried about me, so we talked.

She didn't judge me or tell me what to do. She just asked if I'd heard of myPlan, an app to help college students take a step back and see their relationships more clearly.

So I downloaded the app and as I scrolled through the questions, my eyes began to open for the first time.

I saw the abuse for what it was. My relationship wasn't healthy, and I wasn't safe. I learned what I was experiencing is really common for young people, and once I started thinking about my own situation, I knew that I needed a plan to make a change or things could get worse…way worse.

myPlan helped me think through my options and figure out next steps. I'm in a safer place now. I was lucky and I finally feel like me again.

Backed by years of research, myPlan is designed to support college students experiencing abuse in their relationships. It's personalized, secure, private, and completely free.

Visit myPlanApp.org to decide if your relationship or a friend's is unhealthy or even unsafe.
